St Paul Choral Society returns to Europe with five-day tour
The 50-member Maltese choir presents a rich programme
This August, the St Paul Choral Society (SPCS) embarks on its seventh international tour, bringing its signature sound to Belgium’s historic cities: Bruges, Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels.
The tour begins in Bruges at the Romanesque-Gothic St Saviour’s Cathedral, known for its enchanting acoustics. In Antwerp, the choir performs at the baroque St James’ Church, resting place of Peter Paul Rubens, where sacred music will echo through richly adorned interiors.
Ghent hosts the group for a full day of music, starting with High Mass at the awe-inspiring St Bavo’s Cathedral, home to the Van Eyck brothers’ Adoration of the Mystic Lamb.
That afternoon, the choir gives a concert at the Gothic St Nicholas’ Church, a striking landmark with soaring spires and a grand organ.
The final performance takes place in Brussels at the Cathedral of St Michael and St Gudula – a monumental Gothic treasure and a majestic conclusion to the tour.
Under the direction of Hugo Agius Muscat and Assistant Director Cecilia Agius Muscat, with organist Elisabeth Conrad, the 50-member Maltese choir presents a rich programme featuring works by Maltese composers Azopardi, Vella and Zerafa, alongside pieces by Vivaldi, Palestrina, Bruckner, Bach, Rachmaninov, Fauré and more.
Founded in 1999, SPCS is renowned for its musical excellence and emotional depth. As in past tours, this journey promises not only artistic inspiration but also shared moments of camaraderie, cultural exchange, and the joy of singing where art, history, and faith converge.
