Ivan Pirotta, 27 of Qormi, who was stabbed in a fight between neighbours at Kirkop late on Saturday evening, is in a stable condition after improving.
The police said Mr Pirotta was found to be in danger of dying when admitted to hospital.
The police said that a report which reached them at about 10.45 p.m. on Saturday said that there was a fight in Danny Cremona Street, Kirkop.
Preliminary investigations showed that a quarrel had broken out between two women neighbours.
Two men who were in the company of the women joined in the quarrel and one of them, Mr Pirotta, was stabbed.
Mr Pirotta is the cousin of one of the women involved.
The police are holding the other man for investigation.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera appointed a team of experts to help her in an inquiry.
Police investigations are being conducted by the Zejtun district police and the Criminal Investigation Department.
