Starvation of Gazan children 'an indictment for us all' - Archbishop Scicluna
Mounting condemnation of Israel's actions
The images of innocent children being starved in Gaza are an indictment for us all, Archbishop Charles Scicluna said, as Israel's military action in the Palestinian enclave draws worldwide condemnation.
In a post on X, the Maltese archbishop said: "Their muffled cries engage our deepest sense of decency. We will not be accomplices in such egregious crimes against humanity. Lord have mercy!"
His post was accompanied with four images of children in Gaza begging for food and suffering from malnutrition.
There has been mounting condemnation from diverse church authorities and Christian communities around the world regarding Israel’s military actions in Gaza, especially attacks targeting civilians and religious sites.
Pope Leo XIV last week publicly expressed his “deep sorrow” over the attack on Gaza’s Catholic parish and called for “an immediate halt to the barbarity” in the Strip. He emphasised that the attack was part of a pattern of military actions against civilians and religious sites in Gaza, urging respect for humanitarian law and protection for civilians.
On Wednesday, Matthew Caruana Galizia challenged Roberta Metsola and the European People's Party to speak out louder for starving journalists in Gaza, in a scathing post which contrasted MEPs' silence on the issue to their declarations about his murdered mother.
