I refer to the letter by Anthony J. Paris (July 19) referring to the President's visit to the Vatican, the Sovereign Military Order of St John and the call on the President of Italy Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

The cost of this visit amounted to Lm3,743. This amount covers the cost of flights and accommodation of the official delegation, gifts to the Pope, to Fra Andrew Bertie and to President Ciampi, air tickets of the accompanying press and the charge of the official photographer.

The official delegation for this visit was composed of the President, Mrs Fenech Adami, the private secretary to the President and the ADC to the President. The President's family members who were invited to attend for the audience with the Pope did not form part of the official delegation.
