Hundreds of stone skimming enthusiasts from around the globe gathered on a tiny Scottish island on Sunday to compete for the title of world champion skimmer. Easdale Island, a disused slate quarry off the Atlantic coast with an abundance of flat sedimentary stones, has hosted the World Stone Skimming Championships for the last 22 years.
Each contestant will have 3 skims per session and the stone must bounce at least two before being considered a valid skim.
The world record for distance skimmed using natural stone was laser-surveyed at 121.8 metres at a Guinness-endorsed event held at Abernant Lake, Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys, Wales on Monday 28 May 2018. The record was made by Dougie Isaacs of Scotland, who has won the Easdale event eight times.
