Storm causes 'extensive' damage at Għar Lapsi
People urged to stay away from parts of the site
Powerful waves caused considerable damage to Għar Lapsi on Tuesday, demolishing a platform popular with bathers as well as the lower end of an access ramp and steps.
Siġġiewi local council expressed its concern in a Facebook post, saying it was dismayed to see such a popular site suffering such considerable damage by the forces of nature.
It said it was committed to repairing the site in the best way possible. A site meeting with Public Works officials will be held on Wednesday morning to draw up a plan for repairs.
"This will not be a project of just a few days. The damage is extensive," it said.
It warned visitors to stay away from the caves area and the barbeque site until further notice.
