Heavy rain unleashed by tropical storm Bonnie forced the evacuation of more than 6,500 people in the Dominican Republic and left 26 communities isolated. The director of the Emergency Operations Centre said more than four inches of rain fell.

Juan Manuel Mendez warned that a similar amount of rain is expected as Bonnie mades it way across South Florida.
