The Union Haddiema Maghqudin said it had temporarily suspended strike action at Tug Malta following a "productive" meeting with Finance Minister John Dalli yesterday.
The strike started on Tuesday after talks between the two sides on the collective agreement, which expired two and a half years ago, reached deadlock.
In a statement, the union said the collective agreement for Tug Malta workers was discussed during the meeting with Mr Dalli.
The union's proposals were also discussed during the meeting.
As a result of the meeting, the union decided to temporarily suspend the strike and will again be meeting Mr Dalli on Monday with the aim of reaching a final agreement.
According to Tug Malta, the pay demands being made by the Union Haddiema Maghqudin on behalf of 57 Tug Malta employees would amount to Lm1.3 million over a three-year period.
Such demands were unacceptable, a Tug Malta statement said.
