The government has reported strong response in China to a residence and visa programme launched in Shanghai by Jose’ Herrera, parliamentary secretary for competitiveness and economic growth.
Dr Herrera told a conference that people who wish to join the programme need to spend €500,000 by purchasing or renting property in Malta, investing in government bonds, and giving a financial contribution to Identity Malta.
“This programme has already sparked global interest, as can be seen by the high turnout of over 400 people at the conference in Shanghai which was addressed by the Parliamentary Secretary,” the government said.
Shanghai Overseas Chinese Exit-Entry Service was granted a concession to promote and advertise the scheme in China. It was chosen after an open, competitive process, the government said.
Dr Herrera said that the programme will be receiving its first applications in April.
