The University Students Council (KSU) is raising funds during its annual charity campaign for Puttinu Cares - Children's Cancer Support Group. The money raised will be used to purchase computers for the Wonderland Ward at St Luke's Hospital, to be used for learning and entertainment by those children who have to spend long periods of time in hospital.
The Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment, George Pullicino inaugurated the campaign. Also present was Victor Calvagna, chairman of the Puttinu Cares - Children's Cancer Support Group.
The group was set up in September 2002 by the HSBC Cares For Children Fund, with the aim of providing ancillary needs for the families of children affected by all types of cancer.
The HSBC fund together with Philip Farrugia Randon, author of the Puttinu u Toninu children's stories, gave the group the rights to use these well-known characters in their campaigns.
Puttinu u Toninu is a collection of 12 stories for children which are also available on compact disc. Proceeds collected through the distribution of the books and CDs are donated to the HSBC Cares For Children Fund and are currently used in a number of educational, recreational and rehabilitational programmes undertaken by the fund.
