A preliminary investigation carried out by the Department of Social Security shows that a number of Gozitan students attending a full-time course of studies in Malta are receiving unemployment assistance.

The department said these investigations indicate that, prima facie, the students do not satisfy the provisions of the Social Security Act and are therefore not entitled to this benefit.

In the circumstances, the department has suspended the payments of the benefits, pending a more detailed investigation of each individual case.

Every person concerned will be individually informed about the outcome of the investigation when this is concluded, the department said.
