Stuttgart MPs see great future for Malta

"Malta may be the smallest country in the European Union, but it is a pearl with a future," is the opinion of independent members of the Stuttgart Regional Parliament who were on a familiarisation visit to Malta organised in conjunction with Lufthansa German Airlines.

The 15-strong group was accompanied by Elly Martinat of Lufthansa, who is also the vice president of the Regional Parliament.

The focal point of the five-day visit was meetings with members of the Maltese government and German Ambassador Georg Merten.

Lufthansa is planning an expansion of its southern hub at Munich Airport. While last summer the airline doubled its services to long haul destinations from Munich, this year it increased its seat capacity from its southern hub to intercontinental destinations by 11 per cent. Maltese passengers may benefit from connections to European and long haul destinations via Munich thanks to the three-weekly direct flights which feed into the Lufthansa network.

Lufthansa is offering special introductory prices to Munich and several European cities.
