Fiat Luxol and Depiro Still lifted the Louis Borg Cup, the third honour in the local basketball season, after seeing off Hamrun Liberty and Luxol respectively.
Yesterday, both Fiat Luxol and Depiro continued where they had left off in Saturday's first legs by claiming victories in the second ties to seal their success in a convincing manner.
In the men's contest Hamrun, who started yesterday's second leg with a 12-point deficit after losing the first leg 70-58, enjoyed the better start. Inside the first five minutes, Adrian Mifsud's team surged into an eight-point lead, 10-2, to raise hopes of an overall victory.
Helped by the introduction of Dunstan Falzon, Luxol bounced back into contention to turn the tables on their opponents, taking a 31-18 advantage at the break.
On the resumption, the match descended into a scrappy affair with Hamrun showing more determination in their bid to beat their rivals.
Luxol refused to be intimidated and two late free-throws ensured a 52-48 victory. Their 122-106 aggregate win rewarded them with their first piece of silverware of the season.
Depiro too strong for Luxol
Depiro's comprehensive 77-35 victory in the first leg of the women's Louis Borg Cup final had left Luxol with a mountain to climb going into the second match.
Yesterday, the Rabat outfit were again too strong for Luxol as they controlled proceedings from the start to build a 15-point advantage by the end of the second quarter, 36-21.
Luxol's reaction failed to materialise and Rabat strolled to a 69-44 victory to claim the Cup, 146-79 on aggregate.
