It is high time the government takes the lead and insist that supermarkets launch a campaign to reduce the wrapping and plastic containers as they did with plastic carrier bags, which saw a massive reduction of plastic bags flying all over the place. For the past year, I have always taken plastic sealable and reusable containers with me to the supermarkets for use when I buy meat and Delicatessen items, although I seem to be one of very few who does this.

One particular week, I decided to do my purchases from a major supermarket in Mosta and I was made to feel like a nuisance and the effort of taking my own containers was not well received.

Perhaps the government could lead the way by entering in talks with supermarket owners to start a campaign to reduce plastic and other wrapping waste.

Such an initiative would have a huge impact on the ton of wrapping paper and plastic containers that are thrown away each day.
