Suspended Floriana trio out of relegation tie

Marsaxlokk president to appeal 10-match ban

Floriana will be without three players for their opening Relegation Pool game against Ħamrun Spartans next month after Orosco Anonam, Julian Briffa and Victor Zlydarev were handed a one-match ban yesterday.

The Greens' trio were disciplined after they received a red card in last weekend's 4-1 defeat to Tarxien Rainbows in a match from the second round of the FA Trophy.

As Floriana have been knocked out of the Trophy, the suspended players must serve their bans in their team's next competitive match, meaning that Anonam, Briffa and Zlydarev will be ineligible to face the Spartans on March 7.

Zlydarev will have to skip Floriana's next two matches, provided his services are retained by the Premier League club, as the Russian also received a one-match suspension for his late red card in the 4-2 league defeat of Msida last week.

Tarxien Rainbows' Steve Sadowski was also given a one-match ban yesterday after he saw red early in the second half of last Sunday's match.

The suspension rules Sadowski out of Tarxien's FA Trophy quarter-final. The last-eight draw of the FA Trophy has not been made yet.

Marsaxlokk president Robert Micallef was hit with a 10-match touchline ban for his verbal rant at referee Marco Borg at the end of Saturday's FA Trophy match against Ħamrun Spartans. Marsaxlokk were ousted from the FA Trophy after losing 1-0 to the Spartans.

Contacted by The Times, a distraught Micallef said he will lodge an appeal against his suspension.
