A monti hawker who was caught selling pirate DVDs at the Ta Qali flea market has been handed a suspended jail term.

Jesmond Musu, 51, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Miriam Hayman to falsifying trademarks and breaching copyright laws.

Given his early guilty plea and his cooperation with investigators, Magistrate Hayman jailed him for a year suspended for two and ordered the destruction of all the DVDs seized by the police during the raid on January 11 this year.

Police Inspector Rennie Stivala prosecuted.
