A San Gwann man has been given a two-year jail term suspended for four years after he admitted to defrauding several petrol stations when he made use of counterfeit money.

Joseph Grech, 46, pleaded guilty to making use of counterfeit money and defrauding the stations of about Lm36 on and before November 17, 2004.

On handing down judge-ment, Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima noted the amount of money defrauded and that Grech had a clean criminal record. She ordered the confiscation of the car with which the crime was committed.

Police Inspector Ian Abdilla prosecuted.
