Nicholas Bellotti, 27 of Cospicua, was yesterday given a two year jail term suspended for three years after he was found guilty of theft.
Bellotti was found guilty of stealing jewellery and cash to the detriment of Mary and Carmel Busuttil in July, 1999.
The court considered that the accused had admitted his guilt earlier this month, after the prosecution had concluded its evidence, that the amount of the theft was Lm132 and was relatively small and that the items stolen were exhibited in court and could be returned to their rightful owners.
The court felt that in the circumstances, a suspended prison term was more appropriate.
Inspector Carmelo Bartolo prosecuted.
