Suspended sentence for man who threatened partner with revenge porn

The man had cameras in several rooms and shared an intimate video of himself and the victim on social media

A 43-year-old man has been handed a two-year suspended jail term after pleading guilty to sharing an intimate video of himself and his partner on social media.

The man was charged with several offences, including revenge porn, harassment, and digital threats.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Nadia Vella, heard how the couple had been in a three-month relationship when an argument broke out last month, and the accused had shared an intimate video of them on WhatsApp and Instagram.

The court heard how the accused had cameras hidden in his bedroom and other rooms, and started to threaten the woman that he would share their videos if she did not return to his house immediately.

The accused admitted to all the charges against him and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, suspended for two years. The court also issued a three-year restraining order to protect the victim.

Police Inspector Sherona Buhagiar prosecuted, while the accused was assisted by lawyers Jacob Magri and Arthur Azzopardi. Lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Fleur Abela assisted the victim.
