Suspended sentence for manager found using fake passport
He was caught while trying to travel to Germany
A 44-year-old man has been handed a suspended sentence after being found guilty of trying to travel using fake documents.
Youssef Sabry, a Moroccan man who lives in St Paul’s Bay, was arraigned before Magistrate Tanya Sammut and accused of falsifying or altering a passport and using documents he knew had been falsified.
He was also accused of providing false information and making false declarations to the Principal Immigration Officer.
The court heard how Sabry tried to travel to Germany on May 18 and was found to be using a fake passport.
Sabry admitted the charges.
The court handed him a two-year prison term, suspended for four years.
Magistrate Sammut explained that she was aware that the accused had been living in Malta for over nine years, was working as a manager at a company, and had never previously had any problems with the law.
Police Inspector Christian Abela prosecuted. Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared for the defence.
