Alternattiva Demokratika is proposing to promote sustainable tourism, such as eco-tourism and cultural tourism, lamenting that Malta had missed a golden opportunity to project itself as an eco friendly destination in the year internationally dedicated to the promotion of eco tourism.

AD yesterday expressed concern that during the first 11 months of last year, tourist arrivals declined by 4.6 per cent, while tourism-generated income also fell.

AD's proposals include the revitalisation of Valletta and the three cities, the organisation of music festivals and other cultural events and the setting up of a national trust to protect the national heritage.

In the meantime, AD's spokesman for tourism and civil society, Michael Briguglio welcomed the fact that tourist arrivals in November increased by 3.3 per cent and that cruise passengers visiting Malta also increased in number during the past year.
