Swimming 'not recommended' off Wilga Street in St Julian's, authorities warn

Overflow of 'foul water' in the area

Health authorities have warned against swimming in an area of the sea off Wilga Street in St Julian's, due to an overflow of "foul water".

In a statement Monday evening, the Environmental Health Directorate said that an overflow of foul water from below the rocks "may affect the bathing water quality and poses a risk to bathers’ health".

Environmental health officers were investigating to locate the source of the contamination, the directorate said.

"At this stage, the duration of the contamination cannot be predicted."

Signs warning bathers of the situation have been affixed in the area and they will be removed once the water is once again fit for bathing, the authority said.
