Two Syrians were today remanded in custody after they pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring their second cousin Faisal Alhamed.

Shawakh Kasem, 38, of San Gwann and his brother Kasem Kasem, 37, of Marsa were also charged with breaching the peace.

Shawakh pleaded not guilty to committing the crime during the period of a suspended jail term and Kasem with relapsing.

The victim, who is currently at Mater Dei’s Intensive Therapy Unit, allegedly demanded money for work carried out, a fight broke out and the brothers beat him up, fracturing his skull.
