David Green, director general of the British Council, will visit Malta from tomorrow to Tuesday, to discuss Maltese/UK cooperation in education and culture, on the eve of Malta's accession to the European Union.
He will meet leading Maltese practitioners during his visit, to gain an understanding of Malta's priorities in these key sectors.
During his visit, Mr Green will call on the President of Malta. He will also meet the Minister for Culture and Tourism and the Minister for Education, Youth and Employment.
He will also attend a performance of This Imaginary Woman by the Volcano Theatre Group from Wales, brought to Malta by the British Council, being performed today and tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the MITP Theatre, in Valletta.
Mr Green was appointed director general of the British Council in July 1999.
As director general he is responsible for setting the strategy of the British Council, the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations.
The British Council has offices in 110 countries, including Malta. Mr Green was previously director of the UK's Voluntary Service Overseas and has extensive experience in development, education and the voluntary sector.
