A 20-year-old man was on Monday granted bail after pleading guilty to a theft from a shop in Tarxien on March 23.

Anthony Joseph Xuereb, from Tarxien, was escorted to court on Monday, facing charges of aggravated theft and wilful damage to third party property after being tracked down as the suspect behind the nighttime robbery.

Items of clothing worth over €2,329 were reported stolen.

The accused registered an early admission and his lawyer, Charmaine Cherrett, requested the court to order a pre-sentencing report in view of the accused’s personal problems.

The court, presided over by magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit, upheld the request and also another request for bail pending the drawing up of that report.

Inspector Sarah Kathleen Zerafa prosecuted.
