Tayar Foundation to hold yearly Holocaust Remembrance Day talk
Historian Nathaniel Calleja Gera will talk through the history of the Jewish presence in Malta
The Tayar Foundation for Jewish Heritage in Malta is organising another event to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27. The day was designated by the United Nations in 2005 to commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and honour the victims of the Holocaust.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg will deliver a welcoming address.
Sir Bernard Eder KC, who was born in Malta in the early 1950s to Hans and Helga Eder of the well-known HARO fashion shop family, will illustrate, with interesting historic documents and photos, how his family fled from Vienna at the time of the Anschluss surviving the Holocaust and relocating to Malta.
Historian Nathaniel Calleja Gera will talk through the history of the Jewish presence in Malta and the government’s policy on immigration before and during World War II.
A question-and-answer session will follow and refreshments will be offered at the end of the event.
Entrance is free of charge. For more details and in order to receive an invitation to attend, the public is to register here.
The Tayar Foundation is hosting event with the support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Embassy of the State of Israel.
