Archbishop Joseph Mercieca yesterday appealed to Catholic teachers to search their conscience and ensure they were still upholding Christian values, by word and by example.
Speaking during a Mass to mark the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the Sisters of Charity in Tarxien, he said that most educators tried to follow in their own lives the values that they taught their students.
However, human frailty being what it was, not everyone managed to do this.
"Can we reassure ourselves that all our educators understand and recognise that their noble mission lies in dedicating themselves generously to the service of people?
"Are we sure that the sense of dedication is greater than the desire for money that overcomes people today?"
