Technological connectivity discussed with European Commission vice-president

A government delegation led by the prime minister discussed technological connectivity with the European Union during a meeting in Castille on Monday with Henna VirkkunenIn, the European Commission's vice president, who is responsible for technological sovereignty, security, and democracy

Robert Abela spoke mainly about Malta’s priorities, particularly in ensuring a digital core within a Single Market that works for everyone, including for a Member State like Malta, the government said in a statement.

He also stressed that European connectivity, even in times of international challenges in the energy sector, is crucial.

The prime minister also reiterated the need for solidarity and a common approach in areas such as the maritime sector, also in the context of developments in the Mediterranean related to the Russian tanker Arctic Metagaz, which drifted in the central Mediterranean after an explosion allegedly caused by an attack.

Also present for the meeting were Foreign Minister Ian Borg, Economy Minister Silvio Schembri and Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, among others.
