Two members of the Junior School Convent of the Sacred Heart, St Julian's, have just returned from Greece, a co-ordinating partner in a Comenius project by the European Union aimed at bringing the younger European generation closer together through education, thus creating, nurturing and moulding the European citizens of tomorrow.

Together withe the Socrates Department of the University of Malta, Sacred Heart is taking part in the project along with six other schools from Greece, Italy, the Czech Republic, Romania and Ireland.

One particular project is called Johnny Cosmo and it is all about a Teddy bear who, in the name of peace, travels from one country to another gathering information on each country's history, geography, culture, language and traditions.

At the end of his voyage, in four years' time, Johnny Cosmo will have compiled all material in a book, a series of comics, a CD-Rom, and a Website on the Internet. Music with lyrics from all six participating countries is also on his agenda.

In Greece, the Sacred Heart representatives attended a meeting with all participating countries during which they discussed programmes, exchanged material, and set a time limit.

The programme has given the Sacred Heart Junior School the opportunity to widen horizons and to form friendships while working and exchanging data.

We look forward to the coming year when we will meet in Romania to share our assignments and plan work ahead as our project expands and develops.
