Teenage girl reports man to police after he sent her indecent images online
Accused admits inviting minor to participate in sexual activities
A teenage girl reported a man to the police after he sent her indecent images and videos during an online chat.
The 21-year-old man, who told the court he is a businessman, pleaded guilty to sending indecent photos and videos to a 14-year-old girl and inviting her to participate in sexual activities.
The court heard how the accused started chatting with the girl over a social media platform and sent her indecent material during these conversations.
She went with her father to Qawra police station to file a report against the man which led to his arrest at his residence.
The man pleaded guilty to all the charges brought against him.
The defence explained that the accused is attending sessions with a psychotherapist in order to address problems related to the case and asked the Court to prepare a pre-sentencing report before the sentence is handed down.
The court granted the accused bail against a €2,000 deposit and a personal guarantee of €8,000. As part of the bail conditions, he must sign a bail book at a police station twice a week, observe a curfew between 11pm and 6am, and refrain from entering the Buġibba area where the victim resides.
Magistrate Nadine Sant Lia presided over the court. The prosecution was led by Inspectors Marshall Mallia and Warren Galea assisted by Lawyer Cynthia Tomasuolo.
Lawyers Arthur Azzopardi and Jacob Magri appeared for the accused.
