A teenager of Maltese descent was killed in Sydney, Australia, at the weekend, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Nathan Garriock, 17, who has Maltese grandparents, died of head and chest injuries after he was rammed by a car and possibly beaten up afterwards.

The teenager's grandparents are Joseph and Esther Redman, who live in Australia and have relatives in Malta.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that New South Wales police were investigating reports that a teenager who died after a car ploughed into a group of eight party-goers may have survived the impact, only to be beaten over the head with a lump of wood. The victim died in hospital.

The incident took place outside a party in the southwest suburb of Camden South early on Sunday.

Camden Acting Superintendent Pat Paroz said police had urged a 21-year-old south western Sydney man, a suspect in the killing, to give himself up to police.

Supt Paroz said more than 50 witnesses had been interviewed and investigators were pursuing several leads.

The Daily Telegraph in Sydney reported that one witness told police the victim survived being hit by the car but was then beaten over the head with a piece of wood.
