Four young people have been co-opted to the Council for Children for the next year.
They are Malone Debono, who is hearing impaired, Charlot Borg, both aged 16, Lara Camilleri and Shanna Spiteri, both 13.
They were elected by other children earlier this month to advise the Commissioner for Children and ensure that the voice of children and young people is heard in the council. During a council meeting, Sonia Camilleri, the Commissioner for Children, said the co-option encompassed the spirit of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Commissioner for Children Act.
The council is made up of the commissioner, five members appointed by various ministries, the chairman of the Social Affairs Committee of Parliament and six other co-opted members, four of whom are children.
