I refer to Joe Sammut's letter (September 22) on the cost of telephone enquiries. We agree that the 78 cents charge for calling our directory enquiry service is indeed unusually high and, hereby, invite Mr Sammut to contact the undersigned so we can look into the matter.

Vodafone Malta would like to take this opportunity to inform customers that its directory enquiry service is also available via SMS at a cost of only three cents per SMS.

To use Vodafone's SMS directory enquiry service customers can send any of the following details via SMS to 600600 from their mobile phone:

¤ v*first name*last name
- (e.g. v*john*borg)

¤ v*first name*last name*town
- (e.g. v*john*borg*valletta)

¤ v*business name
- (e.g. v*vodafone)

Customers will then receive the information requested via SMS.

Customers can use Vodafone's other directory enquiry services by calling 118 from their Vodafone mobile phone or 1189 from a any other landline or mobile phone. Calls made to 118 or 1189 are charged at the ongoing commercial mobile terminating rates.

Vodafone hopes that this information will help Mr Sammut and all other Vodafone customers. Those persons who require any further details may contact Vodafone's customer care department on 247 from their mobile. Calls to 247 from one's Vodafone cost only four cents, irrespective of the duration of the call.
