Temperatures to feel as hot as 38°C next week

While July temperatures have unsurprisingly remained consistently in the 30s, Malta has not yet seen the scorching temperatures of two summers ago

Temperatures are forecast to feel as hot as 38°C next week as the peak of summer approaches.

The average temperature for July is 31 degrees Celsius.

On Monday, the temperature is set to have an evening low of 26°C and reach highs of 36°C- but it will feel 2°C hotter than that.

It will get one degree hotter on Tuesday, 37°C, but it will not feel hotter than that.

The airport, which doubles up as Malta’s weather service, already issued a yellow weather warning on Wednesday as the island saw temperatures reach 34°C.

While July temperatures have unsurprisingly remained consistently in the 30s, Malta has not yet seen the scorching temperatures of two summers ago.

In July 2023, the maximum temperature was above 40°C for six consecutive days. The highest temperature recorded that month was 42.7°C – almost the hottest it has ever gotten in Malta.

That heatwave was coupled with a days-long power cut that affected much of Malta.

Still, August 1999 holds the record for the highest temperature of 43.8°C.
