The Energy and Water Agency’s vision in supporting voluntary organisations
'Our primary goal is to keep supporting organisations to make sustainable and efficient choices'
The vision of the Energy and Water Agency is to assist and cover all sectors of energy and water in Malta. Our aim as an agency is to strengthen sustainability in these two sectors, both from an environmental perspective and to safeguard resource security.
We strive to continue improving our support towards different social groups, particularly through the agency’s schemes. Among these groups are voluntary organisations, which are being supported to strengthen their resources in a more sustainable and efficient way.
A clear example of the progress being made is the Energy and Water Efficiency Scheme. With more than 85 voluntary organisations assisted and €1.8 million in allocated funds over the past three years, the agency is proud to announce the launch of the fifth call of the Energy and Water Efficiency Scheme for Voluntary Organisations this year.

In collaboration with the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS), this scheme will once again assist voluntary organisations in improving energy and water efficiency systems, with the aim also to reduce the voluntary organisation’s operational cost and create an organisation to which society in general can relate to and participate.
With over 120 interventions, the voluntary organisations that have benefited from this scheme in the past include sports clubs, band clubs, as well as social groups. Such interventions range from the installation of solar water heaters and LED lighting to upgrades of air conditioning systems, kitchen and cleaning equipment, and the restoration of water reservoirs.
As a result of this success, the scheme will now also reopen to voluntary organisations that have already benefited and wish to implement further sustainable measures.
This scheme reflects the agency’s commitment to continue empowering voluntary organisations by helping them reduce energy and water consumption, lower costs and operate more efficiently, thereby continuing to improve Malta’s environmental milestones.

Our work will continue to support and value organisations so that, as a community, we continue the transition towards a more sustainable country.
