Joseph Muscat's decision to abolish the role of secretary general and divide the post's responsibilities among the president and deputy leader for party affairs will inevitably result in an increase in Toni Abela's share of power. Not only will Dr Abela be given more responsibilities but he will also be given power where it counts, among the party's grassroots. Doesn't this run counter to Dr Muscat's promise to formulate a more modern and moderate party?
