It is encouraging to hear that the EU wants to treat the Maltese language "very seriously" and the Maltese people should feel honoured at that.

What is utterly disencouraging, however, is that the Maltese themselves, first in list the government, do not want to treat our national language not even seriously let alone "very". And this is the problem!
