I have just returned from a visit to my country. I was born in Mdina and I did observe the beautiful and eye-catching flag flying on top of the entrance to our city - minus the George Cross.
I was told that that is the Mdina flag so to speak but does that mean that the Mdina people do not deserve the George Cross or have they refused to recognise it?
As a war baby I have my reminders of hurried visits to the shelter during air raids and I also vividly recollect the bombing of our house in 1942. We lived behind that bombed façade until 1953 when, because the island was running out of war damage money, we were given the generous sum of £30 and we were grateful for it.
I do not want to reignite the controversial subject of the George Cross or not the George Cross but, obviously, when it hits so close to home you cannot but pass your own individual opinion.
I am sure this calls for a national debate.
