I could not agree more with the sentiments of Tony Cassar (September 1) and the disgusting state of City Gate.

I could not believe then, all those years ago, although still a child, the wanton vandalism of destroying Kings Gate and believe even less how permission was given to erect the monstrosity that replaced it. I still find it impossible today and, oh, so sad, to believe how anyone could have pulled down that precious part of Maltese history. If only it could be rebuilt in its original style. Forget the Opera House... pull down City Gate and replace it with the wonderful piece of architecture that stood there so proudly before.
