The original fault

You have been carrying a number of letters saying that the government should clean up the country. Why?!

If irresponsible people were to stop making a mess, there would be no need for this. Stop throwing sweet wrappers, cigarette packets, etc. away or out of car windows; stop dumping rubbish in fields and other places; take your picnic rubbish home!

To clean up the country, the government has to pay someone out of taxes. It would be cheaper not to make a mess in the first place. Have you no pride?

It is said that the government should repair the roads. Ninety-nine per cent of the holes in the roads are caused by badly re-paired trenches.

This is the fault of the workers and their supervisors. Putting it right costs taxpayers' money.

If people were more responsible for their actions and stopped expecting someone else to tidy up after them, things would be a lot better in our country.

Have some pride, show some responsibility.
