Darkness on Good Friday yesterday did not strike at 3 p.m. but some hours later as the country suffered a nationwide power cut.

Readers sent in a variety of photographs, a selection of which are being shown above.

The first, by Albert Debono, and another by Ismael Zmirli, show the puff of smoke coming out of the power station.

Kirill Devedzhiev's photo shows an unlit Kappara roundabout and one by Nicholas Abela shows the Kenuna tower under a sky unpolluted by light.

Marco Avellino's photo show altar boys lighting the way for a Good Friday procession.

In another photo, Victor B. Caruana, shows hooded men in the dark during the Mosta procession. Other photos of the Mosta procession were submitted by a reader who did not wish to be named.

Ray Pace submitted a photo of Victoria's main street just after the last statue came out of St George's Basilica and past it-Tokk.

Another reader submitted a photo reflecting his evening later, a lit gas lamp, an ashtray full of cigarette butts and an empty glass.
