Speaking at the Prize Day of St Theresa Girls' Junior Lyceum, Mriehel, held on May 7, the head of school, Ms Josette Mifsud Matrenza, focused on the role of parents in the upbringing of children.
Supported by research in the educational field, she outlined various ways in which parents could help their children grow up into successful citizens.
Although the main item in the evening was the prize-giving ceremony, those present were thrilled by the magnificent performance delivered by students of excerpts from the musical The Sound of Music. Students sang the all-time favourite tunes and also managed to fill everybody's heart with music.
Ruth Spiteri Bezzina and Maria Dimech were in charge of the overall direction, choreography, musical arrangements and voice coaching of the students. Together with the unfailing dedication of the cast and the remainder of the production crew, Maria Von Trapp's ideal, the importance of holding on to one's dreams and freeing one's spirit through music, was portrayed.
The Minister of Education, Dr Louis Galea, and the director-general, Mr Charles Mizzi, addressed those present, who included directors, assistant directors and other senior officials from the Education Division.
