David Chircop, 14, of Attard, received rapturous applause from a British theatre audience earlier this month when he starred in the Stagecoach Theatre Arts annual production in the UK, Stagecoach (Malta) said.

He played the leading role of Heathcliff, a highly sought after part in the musical Gypsy Blood, a new version of the Bronte novel Wuthering Heights. The musical was written and composed by Veronica Bennetts, Stagecoach's Director of Education, and staged at the Leatherhead Theatre in Surrey.

Edward Mercieca, Senior Principal of Stagecoach (Malta), said taking part in Gypsy Blood was a great opportunity for David. The budding actor has also been cast in a cameo role in an ITV film She's Gone, playing alongside well-known British actor Ray Winston.

Stagecoach Theatre Arts plc was founded in 1988 and is the largest part-time theatre school for youngsters, with over 500 schools and 35,000 students in Australia, Germany, Gibraltar, Ireland, Malta, Spain and the US. The organisation teaches children "valuable skills for life" through singing, dancing and acting.

Stagecoach operates at centres in Mosta, St Andrews, Birkirkara, Birsebbuga, Mgarr and Victoria. Children aged four to 16 can join. There are also 16 Plus classes.
