Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said yesterday that 2,629 thefts were reported in the last quarter of last year and 95 were solved by the police.

Replying to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Gavin Gulia, the minister said 7,984 thefts were reported in 1998 and 394 were solved.

There were 9,096 reported thefts in 1999 of which 526 were solved, and there were 10,366 thefts in the year 2000 of which 526 were solved.
