A total of 783 thefts were reported to the police last month. The highest amount was 293 thefts from cars with house burglaries coming a distant second at 88 followed by 53 thefts of cars and 43 thefts from shops and 34 thefts from hotels and bars.

The information was given by Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg, who told Gavin Gulia (MLP) that the police solved 37 theft cases during the same month.

A breakdown of reported crimes last month included nine sexual offences, four cases of prostitution, one crime against public safety, nine cases of arson, two cases of computer misuse and 12 cases of violence against public officers.
