Thief faces fresh charges of attempted theft from cars after fingerprints match

The accused had admitted thefts from cars in 2024

A 46-year-old man who was convicted of a series of thefts from cars in 2024 is facing fresh charges of attempted theft from two cars three years previously after fingerprints found on the vehicles matched his.

Police inspector Karen Cassar told a court that the police had investigated a string of thefts from parked vehicles in 2024. The accused, Stephen Urry, had been arraigned and admitted to those charges.

The police had since found that fingerprints found on two vehicles targeted in  January 2021 matched Urry's.

Urry, who is serving a prison term at Corradino Correctional Facility, denied the fresh charges, which include attempted aggravated theft, causing damage to both vehicles and recidivism.

Magistrate Giannella Camilleri Busuttil presided. AG lawyer Clive Aquilina prosecuted, assisted by police inspector Karen Cassar. Legal aid lawyer Ingrid Zammit Young appeared for the accused.
