A man was approached by thieves early on Sunday who placed a penknife to his neck as they made off with his mobile phone and valuable items.

The police said the incident happened in Triq Giorgio Mitrovich, Msida at around 1.45am.

They said the man was in his car when the thieves approached him. A search for them is underway.

The victim was slightly injured.

The police are investigating.
