This is a world mangled and twisted

As hard as it is to believe, what we once vowed 'never again' is happening, again

Where lies are said to be truth and truth lies, and where the difference is said to be irrelevant.

Where countries with weapons of mass destruction attack countries trying to develop weapons of mass destruction.

Where protesting the killing of people is a crime, whereas actually killing them is not.

Where campaigning against genocide or crimes against humanity is classified as a criminal act.

Where bombing, shooting and killing are seen as the way to stop bombing, shooting and killing.

The world turned inside out.

Where constantly herding people at gunpoint is presented as a way of keeping them safe.

Where those organising humanitarian aid kill those desperately in need of it.

Where those who soak a country in blood present themselves as victims.

Where starving others to death is justified so you can live in security.

A world twisted beyond any real meaning.

Where being of one religion gives you the right to take the land, houses and resources of those of a different religion and to justify this by referring to religion.

Where one horrific experience of discrimination and extermination gives you the right to visit the same discrimination and extermination on others.

Where protecting one group of children means killing another group.

Where assassinating their leaders means assassinating their elders, women, children, bystanders and unavoidably, anyone in the way.

Where being forced at gunpoint to leave the country of your birth is presented as free choice.

A world determined to learn nothing from history.

Where your right to land is based on denying others their right to land.

Where denying others the right to water, schools, medicine and housing is deemed necessary so you have access to water, schools, medicine and housing.

Where international law applies to all, except those we say it doesn’t apply to on any given day and in any given context.

Where international diplomacy is wilfully reduced to hand-wringing, head shaking, strategic silence, praise for militarists and autocrats.

Where international diplomacy equals statement after statement after statement.

A world of appeasement, of failed and failing ‘leadership’.

Where making our future great again means denying the futures of others.

Where the world’s largest weapons supplier is nominated by the world’s largest user of those weapons for the world’s most prestigious peace prize.

Where believing what we can see and hear is officially not seen or heard.

Where evil is justified, defended and even hailed.

A world of crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing and genocide…this time live on TV, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, beamed directly to you.

A world where this is happening once again.

A world I am deeply troubled and ashamed to be a part of.
