Thousands receive exam results
Higher success rate at Level 3 in Maltese, Ethics, Geography, French, German and Italian
Thousands of young people in Malta and Gozo are receiving their Matsec results today, the Education Ministry said.
The results show a higher success rate at Level 3 in Maltese, Ethics, Geography, French, German and Italian. The success rate in Maths and English was consistent with previous years, the ministry said.
The exams, held by the Matsec Board, this year included new subjects, as well as a new results format.
Some 3,760 candidates sat for matriculation exams and 5,250 for SEC.
The new subjects, at SEC level, were Chinese, Dance, Theatre and Maltese as a foreign language.
SEC exam results now include a School-Based Assessment (SBA) accounting for 30% of the final mark. The SBA is based on students' work in the last two years of secondary school, including projects, oral presentations, class tests and other forms of continuous assessment.
Candidates could opt for either of two exam levels, level 2-3 as in previous years and level 1-2 aimed at certifying a basic level for those who would have concluded the scholastic year.
Level 3 remains the level needed for students to move to post-secondary education. Levels 1 and 2 may suffice when a good grade is obtained in the school-based assessment.
Revision classes will be held for students who have not achieved their grades.
