43-year-old pleaded not guilty, granted bail

One of three people arrested on suspicion of cannabis trafficking pleaded not guilty when arraigned in Gozo on Friday morning.

The police said in a statement that the 43-year-old German national was arrested following an investigation into the illegal cultivation of cannabis plants.

Following a search on Thursday in an apartment on Triq il-Wied, Marsalforn, the police found 11 plants that were being illegally grown inside the residence as well as on the roof, the police said.

The officers also found several sachets containing cannabis, raising suspicion about drug trafficking.

The man was granted bail by court presided over by Magistrate Jean Paul Grech.

The two others, who have not yet been arraigned, are a 37-year-old man from Ghana and a 36-year-old from Sudan.

Police investigations are ongoing.
